The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater is pleased to announce auditions for their upcoming production of An American In Paris.

With music by George and Ira Gershwin and a story based on the Oscar-winning 1951 film starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, this stage adaptation took Broadway by storm in 2015, earning multiple Tony Awards including best choreography.
 
An American in Paris will be directed by Jenny Barlow with choreography by Penny Saunders and music direction by Anne Puzey.

Character Descriptions

Jerry Mulligan

(Male Presenting, age 21-30)
American soldier turn ex-pat artist, Jerry is a happy-go-lucky all-American who has fallen in love with French ballet dancer Lise. This role is extremely demanding. Must be an exceptional and versatile dancer, singer, and actor.

Lise

(Female Presenting, age 18-25)
Shy young Ballet dancer who reluctantly falls in love with American artist Jerry. This role is extremely demanding. Must be an exceptional ballet dancer with pointe and partner experience. Must also be a singer/actor.

Adam

(Male Presenting, age 21-30)
A former American soldier who after being wounded in the war, decides to stay in Paris and become a composer. Befriends Jerry. Narrates the story. Strong piano skills are a plus.

Henri Baurel

(Male Presenting, age 21-30)
Endlessly charming young French cabaret song and dance man. Engaged to Lise.

Milo Davenport  

(Female Presenting, age 35-45)
A mature, sophisticated, wealthy American entrepreneur with more than just a professional interest in Jerry.

Madame Baurel

(Female Presenting, age 45-55)
Henri’s stoic and war-worn mother. She is slow to let go of her paranoia caused by the German occupation.

Monsieur Baurel 

(Male Presenting; age 45-60)
Henri’s father. Much more accepting of the changes happening in post-war Paris. Loves American jazz.

Dance Ensemble

(Male & Female Presenting, ages 18-35)
Must be strong Dancer/Actor/Singers with versatility in multiple styles of dance including ballet (pointe preferable), tap, musical theatre, and partnering. Will play a variety of roles, some speaking roles and many dance features.
