The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater at doTERRA (“The Ruth”) is excited to announce the opening of its inaugural production, Ragtime, running from January 4 to February 22, 2025. Based on the novel by E.L. Doctorow, with a book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Ragtime brings a powerful and poignant musical story to life as the first show in the brand-new venue.

Set in the early 20th century, Ragtime intertwines the lives of three distinct families—each struggling to define their place in a world filled with social upheaval, racial tension, and unrelenting change. Through these families’ personal and collective journeys, Ragtime explores timeless themes of hope, injustice, and the pursuit of the American Dream. As historical figures like Henry Ford, Emma Goldman, and J.P. Morgan interact with fictional characters, the musical paints a vivid portrait of a nation on the brink of transformation.

"Ragtime is a story that deals with justice, compassion, love and the American dream,” said Jenny Barlow, Ragtime director. “This show is full of so many beautiful moments and so many beautiful songs. It’s the type of show that hits you on so many levels that you almost can’t believe the experience you are having when you watch Ragtime.”

The production of Ragtime marks the inaugural debut at the newly opened theater, The Ruth, in Pleasant Grove, showcasing the venue's stunning new stage. Through its state-of-the-art design, the theater maintains an intimate atmosphere, allowing the audience to feel deeply connected to the powerful performances. With its modern amenities and carefully crafted acoustics, The Ruth provides a perfect setting for this iconic musical, ensuring every note and every moment resonates with all who attend.
